Help and support

Our clergy team can give personal advice and help with homelessness and financial troubles, so do get in touch. St Thomas’s firmly believes that all people are made in the image of God, and we seek to show the same love, care and respect for all, whether or not you are a regular member of the congregation.

Any of us might find ourselves in need at some point in our life. St Thomas’s may be able to offer help, and can also suggest other avenues where help and support might be found.

Pastoral

Pastoral support takes many forms. The clergy team at St Thomas’s provide pastoral support, or can assist you finding other support if needed. If you would like to speak to a member of the clergy, please visit our St Thomas’s Team page for details.

Homelessness

St Thomas’s doesn’t have any facilities to assist those who are homeless, but if somebody is on duty in the church we can normally provide a hot drink and a place to sit.

The charity Alabaré runs a drop-in centre for those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Charities

Financial support may be available from the charities St Thomas’s administers. Applications are usually made by external agencies (normally social services or recognised charities) on behalf of those in need. Please click here for further details of either charity, including contact details.

St Thomas & St Edmund’s Charity

St Thomas’s is entrusted with the care of the St Thomas and St Edmund’s Charity, which disburses funds from a number of small historic bequests, intended for the relief of need for those who live in the parish of St Thomas and St Edmund. Requests for those living in the area of Bemerton Heath are also considered.

The Fricker Charity

The Fricker Charity was established under the terms of the will of John Fricker (d. 1701). Rental income is received from a property in Salisbury, and after expenses for the upkeep of the property are met, any surplus is distributed by St Thomas’s, St Martin’s, and the Trustees of Trinity Hospital. The area considered covers most of central Salisbury. Disbursements are made for those in need.
